How are GripRings installed? –
STEP 1: Clean the handlebar surface to remove any dirt/oils using soap and water or rubbing alcohol.
STEP 2: Use the GripRing Spacing Guide to mark off a first ring position. (Usually the brake lever can be located as an inside stop.)
STEP 3: GripRings are designed to nest, so slide rings onto the handlebar with the larger bevel of each ring facing inward.
STEP 4: Finish the grip with the locking end plug. Tighten screw with 2.5mm hex key until snug. Don’t over tighten.
Do I have to use the end plug? – Yes, if you’re installing the grips at the edge of your handlebars. The GripRing end plug helps hold the last ring in place.
How many rings should I use?
Here’s a rough guide:
- 5 Rings (90mm): Twist shifter grip
- 6 Rings (105mm): Short grip
- 7 Rings (120mm): Standard grip
- 8 Rings (135mm): Wide grip
Will GripRings work with any handlebars? – Yes, nearly all. Most bars are between 22-24mm diameter. The elastic GripRings will easily stretch over straight bars, riser bars, mustache bars, etc. GripRings work best when they have a smooth surface to grab, so heavily textured (i.e. powder coated bars) can be wrapped with glossy tape for improved ring security.
Can I use GripRings on my road bicycle drop bars? – We recommend installing GripRings only on the straight top portion or the flat drops. Technically it is possible to line the entire handlebar with rings, but we don’t recommend it. GripRings nest, so work well on bars with gradual bends, however, drop bar bends are too sharp.
What are GripRings made from? – GripRings are made from non-toxic silicone rubber, the same stuff used for cooking spatulas and your favorite s*x toys.
Should I use soap or hairspray to install GripRings? – No. Soap or hairspray will just make the installation messy. If you are having trouble sliding the GripRings in place, try dipping the ring in water first. Then give the water time to evaporate before riding.
